If I had to sum up this year’s Chicago International Film Festival with one word, it would definitely be “underwhelming.” This year’s programming left much to be desired, especially in its virtual programming, which was scaled back considerably from previous years. This, in my opinion, is decidedly a step backwards.

It’s that time of year again – time for my predictions of the winners at the upcoming annual Academy Awards.
In this second installment of my wrap-up for the best – and worst – of 2021, I specifically look at documentary releases. And, considering how lame 2021 was for new film offerings, all I can say is thank goodness for this movie genre, as it was far and away the cinematic saving grace of the year.
